On Friday morning, 5 November 2021, Incredible Connection in Newcastle, KZN, was robbed in broad daylight.
According to Lizzy Arumugam, a spokesperson for the Newcastle SAPS, staff were on duty when an alarm went off in the store’s laptop section. As a result, one of the employees went to check the security camera.
“Upon checking the camera, she noticed an African male forcefully removing alarm cables from the laptops,” states Arumugam. Furthermore, she says that when the staff member approached the man to find out what he was up to, another suspect shoved her away before punching her in the face.
At this point, the situation became more serious, as the two men were not alone. Three additional suspects were in the store at the same time. Two of whom were armed.
Staff were then forced to lie on the floor while the suspects stole laptops and cellphones worth approximately R300 000.
Newcastle Detectives are currently looking into a case of robbery with a Firearm.
The suspects fled the scene, driving away in their getaway car. The vehicle, according to Arumugam, was a Toyota Hilux Bakkie with the registration number NKR 36576 (Ladysmith reg number). The vehicle was allegedly stolen prior to the incident.
Police investigations are ongoing because the suspects are still at large. “Anyone with any information is encouraged, to kindly contact their nearest police station,” Arumugam concludes.
