Dale Schnuir is a pillar within the town and a longtime resident. A man renowned for his commitment to the Newcastle community.
Dale is an active member of the local Community Watch. This is a group of people working at ensuring our community’s safety from criminals.
In addition, during the July civil unrest, Dale willingly put his life in danger. Along with other members of the community, Dale did everything he could to help safeguard Newcastle and keep it from being destroyed.
Moreover, Dale is a loving husband to Natalie and a dedicated father to his two children, Danica, 15, and Joshua, 12.
Despite Dale’s persistent concern for others, the moment has come for Newcastillians to help him and his family.
Dale was diagnosed with cancer, according to Samantha Shaw, a close family friend. He has cancerous tumours in both his stomach and his brain.
She says, “Dale is a friend of mine and has been for the past 30 odd years. His family is very close to my heart, I feel we need to do everything we can to assist.”
Samantha adds that without Medical Aid coverage and COVID placing financial pressure on the family and them dependent on State Hospitals for aid, it is critical that the community band together to help.
He is presently receiving more testing at Grey’s Hospital.
Because time is of the essence, Samantha emphasises the need of having finances accessible to assist Dale. If Dale requires treatment or medicine, the funds will ensure that he does not have to wait in line and only possibly be seen within three weeks to a month.
Community initiatives are now underway to assist Dale.
Samantha has set up a backabuddy campaign so that Newcastillians may help Dale and his family.

In addition, Newcastle Sakekamer will hold a golf day, with a percentage of the proceeds benefiting Dale and his family. Samantha also has a raffle in which a half-sheep is up for grabs.

Angelique van Vuuren explains, “The main purpose of the Sakekamer Golf Day is usually focused on assisting initiatives such as Morester Children’s Home. But, as Dale is a businessman and because he stood in the frontline to defend Newcastle during the looting, we believe it is important to contribute to him during this difficult time.”
Angelique emphasises that individuals may participate by hosting a waterhole at the event, donating prizes, or taking to the fairway and playing a game of golf.
The Sakekamer Golf Day will be ‘held at Newcastle Golf Club on 3O October 2021.
Tee-off is scheduled for 10 a.m. for a cost of R250 per participant. Lunch will be provided.
There are several prizes to be won on the day. This includes a half-sheep, polarised sunglasses, and vouchers, tools, and backpacks, to name a few.
