Faheem Sherriff, 20, is missing. His absence leaving his family deeply distraught.
Switzerena (Aneesa) Gopie, Faheem’s mother, reveals that her son went missing on 25 September 2021. Leaving their residence at 1.45 a.m. “At the time, he was dressed in a grey t-shirt and black, skinny track pants.”
Gopie adds that she is mentally and emotionally exhausted nearly a month after his disappearance. “A lot of things are going through my mind right now,” she says sadly.
Among them is the safety of her son. According to Gopie, Faheem was diagnosed with schizophrenia when he was 17 years old. He spent time in and out of the hospital while taking chronic medication for his illness.
He had been discharged from the medical institution where he was staying on the day of his disappearance. This is against his family’s belief that he should remain longer for his own well-being.
While the SAPS and Faheem’s family continue their hunt, rumours arose that he was spotted in a Dundee supermarket on Saturday, 16 October 2021. Police and members of Faheem’s family immediately rushed through to the neighbouring town. However, when they got to the spot, Faheem had already left.
“We were told he appears lost and afraid,” Gopie explains. His hands and body were allegedly trembling. When asked where he resided, Faheem remained silent. “We’re concerned that he’s so terrified that he’ll now leave Dundee.”
Warrant Officer Moses Duma of Newcastle Police Station says it is critical to locate Faheem, as he was also spotted talking to himself on Saturday. Fearful for Faheem’s safety, W/O Duma appeals to anybody who sees the missing 20-year-old to come forward.
