On Saturday morning, 19 December 2020— a Chinese businessman was brutally stabbed to death and then discarded, at his place of business on Stephenson Street, Newcastle.

Alex Liu, a member of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, explains the man was murdered by two suspects, who had worked for the victim. He elaborates, “The murder took place between 8.30am, and 9.30am. Apparently, the suspects approached their employer, claiming they had an issue at their living quarters. When he went to investigate, they stabbed him in the neck.”

The two men then allegedly dumped the man’s body behind a Wendy House, leaving the deceased to be found a short while late by his daughter.

SAPS Corporate Communications and Liaison Officer, Lizzy Arumugam, has confirmed the incident. “No arrests have yet been made, and further investigations continue.” She further points out; the suspects allegedly hail from Lesotho.

Following the tragic murder, Andy Hsu, a local Chinese businessman, states the recent murder has resulted in a substantial amount of fear being seen by such businesses. “Employers are starting to feel unsafe and more people are thinking about leaving, which is sad, as a lot of businessmen have already started closing their businesses to leave the area,” he affirms.
