Arthur Zwane, the former Emalahleni ANC Regional Chairperson, is facing attempted murder charges, again. This follows a recent incident at a hardware store in Osizweni, whereby Zwane and his companions entered the store, with the security guard reminding the three men to follow COVID-19 protocols and sanitise their hands as per legal requirements in the country.
While one of the men adhered to the security guard’s request, with aggression, Zwane and his other companion did not, resulting in an argument unfolding. Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications Liaisons, Lizzy Arumugam explains that during the exchange, a 9mm pistol was drawn and the security guard was shot in his left thigh and on the left-hand side of his abdomen.
Subsequent to the senseless shooting, the 39-year-old security guard was rushed to Madadeni Hospital for treatment, and according to Arumugam, Zwane and his two companions were taken into police custody.
While facing police investigations, this is not the first time that Zwane is on the wrong side of the law.
He was also a former ANC Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) member. Then in November 2019, during his time in the PEC, he stormed into an ANC Provincial Working Committee meeting at the political party’s provincial headquarters in Durban. Once inside the meeting, he allegedly pointed a firearm at COGTA MEC Sipho Hlomuka, who later laid charges against Zwane.
With Zwane now facing two attempted murder charges, efforts were made to contact the ANC offices to obtain a statement regarding the recent event. But no comment was forthcoming at the time of publication.
