Motorist flees scene, following collision on Saturday night

While Newcastillians soaked up the weekend, on Saturday night, 28 November 2020, a horrific motor vehicle collision occurred, leaving one person dead, with the driver of the other vehicle not only surviving the crash but allegedly fleeing the scene.

According to emergency personnel, the incident took place at approximately 7.30 pm, when a Toyota Tazz and a Mercedes-Benz were travelling along the Osizweni Road. Unbeknown to those in the vehicles, their lives would be changed forever. Mere meters away from the substation in Osizweni, the two cars collided head-on.

Offering insight, an anonymous source on the scene states, “It is not clear what exactly happened, but it seems the driver of the Tazz might have lost control of his vehicle. But this is still to be established.”

It was then that things took a terrible turn. Following the collision, where one person died, and two others sustained severe injuries, the motorist of the Mercedes fled the scene. Further investigations into the matter will be conducted. However, sources from the scene explain the driver of the Mercedes now faces possible charges.
