Two men are facing criminal charges, after their antics in a stolen vehicle ended in horror, leaving four high school children being rushed to hospital.
The children were allegedly on their way home from school in Wentworth, Durban, when the driver drove past them. A video which has since gone viral on social media, shows the white Toyota Corolla speeding up and down the road.
Wanting to show off, the driver then allowed his confidence to get the best of him, driving faster and faster. Towards the end of the clip, which is speculated to have been filmed by another learner, the car can be seen veering off the road. The driver losing control of the car, crashing into a group of school-goers standing against a wall.
Brigadier Jay Naicker, SAPS KwaZulu-Natal spokesperson, says four learners sustained injuries and they were all taken to hospital for treatment.
Furthermore, he says the suspects are facing charges of possession of stolen property, reckless and negligent driving, failing to produce a driver’s licence, as well as failing to report injuries after an accident.
The vehicle the two men used during the reckless incident, had allegedly been stolen at Amanzimtoti during the course of November 2019.
Robert Mckenzie, KZN EMS, says three of the children sustained minor injuries, while the fourth child was seriously injured.
As the two men face charges for their actions, what steps do you feel should be taken against them?
