The South African Police Service (SAPS) is the front line of defence in the war against crime. Police officers often putting their lives on the line to defend their respective communities.
While combatting crime is a key focus point, the SAPS remains highly involved in the community. Reaching out to people at every opportune time, forging lasting relationships with the people they protect.
Recently, the Newcastle SAPS attended the annual career exhibition at the Newcastle Show Grounds.
The event, which is organised by the Department of Education, sees various industries interact with school learners. This allows the learners to select the career path which is best suited for them.
At the career exhibition, the Newcastle SAPS highlighted the important role the police play in society and learners could make a positive impact on the community by joining the SAPS.
Following the career exhibition, members of the SAPS Amajuba Cluster participated in a 12km walk/run on February 26.
“Over 70 employees participated in this event, which is aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle for cluster employees. All participants were awarded medals and trophies,” says Newcastle SAPS spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Ncube.
Focusing on a healthy lifestyle, the day’s activities did not end with the 12km walk/run.
“The team, together with its partners Cabangela Phambili Funerals, thereafter, proceeded to NOFTA (Newcastle Organizations For The Aged) for its Community Outreach Project,” says Captain Ncube.
At NOFTA, the team donated groceries and clothing to the organisation’s identified beneficiaries.
Captain Ncube explains the Community Outreach Projects are aimed at promoting Community relations and Community Policing.
Well done to the Newcastle SAPS for playing an active role in the community.
