Newcastillians, prepare to witness an exhilarating racing experience. Come this Saturday, October 5, the SA Dirt National Championships will be held at the Oval Track. A motorsport event of epic proportions.

Over the past few months, rigorous planning has been put into the event. An event which will see over 100 racers competing against each other. Each racer hellbent on claiming victory for themselves.

With various dirt clubs falling under WOMZA (World of Motorsport ZA), coming to Newcastle to compete, motorsport fans can expect to see participants from Bloemfontein, Port Elizabeth, Gauteng, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State rising up to the challenge to be the ultimate winner.

As this is the first time in years in which Newcastle Raceway Club has played host to the event, the Oval Track has put in a lot of effort to ensure the track is up to par, meeting strict criteria and deadlines set up by WOMZA.

There will be various divisions for spectators to enjoy, which are as follows:
  • Stock Rods
  • 1660 Modified
  • Two-litre Modified
  • Lexus
  • 16 Valve Midget
  • Flexi V8s
  • Heavy Metals
  • Hot Rods

The gates to the event will open at 10 am. From 2.45 pm, all the cars will be parked around the track. The racers will then interact with spectators from 3.05 pm to 3.40 pm and do autographs on the track.

The introduction to the national anthem will be done at 3.45 pm, with racing beginning promptly at 4 pm.

Entrance fee is R80 per adult, R40 per child from seven years of age to 12 years old. Children younger than six years old and pensioners will enter for free. Trackside parking will cost R50 per vehicle and outside parking will be free of charge.
