When it comes to motorsport, the thrill and adrenaline of human and machine uniting in the pursuit of victory is a calling which one cannot ignore.

Come October 5, Newcastillians can witness motorsport at its best at the Newcastle Oval Track with the SA Dirt National Championship.

On the day an impressive number of drivers will descend on the Oval Track. Between 120 and 150 racers will be taking part in this exciting competition, fuelling the most avid motorsport enthusiast’s adrenaline-fuelled addiction.

The event will see dirt clubs who fall under WOMZA (World of Motorsport ZA) coming down to Newcastle to compete. This will include participants from Bloemfontein, Port Elizabeth, Gauteng, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State set to take part in the event.

Looking forward to the event, Newcastle Raceway Club chairperson, Shaukat Khan explains that the upcoming event promises to be an exciting one.

“We are extremely proud to be hosting the event, but there is a lot of work going into. We have done a lot of upgrades and renovations at the Oval Trak,” Shaukat explains.

These renovations and upgrades include enhancing the clubhouse, the track and much more.

“We are extremely thankful for our current sponsors, which are Midas, JPAN Green Energy Pty Ltd and VME,” adds Shaukat.

Officially taking the title of chairperson in January and having been involved with the Oval Track since 2014, Shaukat says one of the lessons he has learned during his time at Newcastle Raceway Club, is that everyone is family.

“You know you can rely on each other and I am thankful for all the support and trust the drivers have given me in preparation for the upcoming event. I must give them all credit for the trust they have shown me and the effort they are putting into the preparations,” Shaukat concludes.

With a month left until the spectacular event, be sure not to miss out on a day which promises to be filled with revving good fun.
