A 23-year-old woman and a 34-year-old are in custody, following the murder of a 67-year-old woman in KwaMashu in Durban.

Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane says an intensive investigation was conducted by KwaMashu detectives, following the elderly woman’s brutal murder in June this year.

According to Lt-Col Zwane, the investigating officers’ hard work and dedication paid off, when two suspects were arrested on Friday, September 13.

One of the suspects is shockingly the victim’s granddaughter. The items which were stolen were also seized during the arrest.

They will now appear in Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court, facing charges of murder and robbery.

According to reports, the 67-year-old woman was at her home in Umcijo Road in KwaMashu when she was apparently attacked by the two suspects. During the attack, it is alleged the elderly woman was stabbed several times and her hands were tied up.

The grandmother sadly lost her life for only two cellphones and a television set which were taken during the attack.

With the two now facing charges of murder and robbery, they will now face the consequences of their crime.

Well done to the SAPS for ensuring justice was served.
