Brace yourselves for a petrol hike that’s going to see motorists ease off the petrol pedal during the month of April.
The Central Energy Fund predicts the cost for both grades of petrol (93 and 95), will rise significantly. As will the cost for diesel.
Motorists can expect the following increases during the upcoming month:
- Petrol (93 Octane): 74 cents increase
- Petrol (95 Octane): 74 cents increase
- Diesel (0.05% sulphur): 91 cents increase
- Diesel (0.005% sulphur): 93 cents increase
- Illuminating Paraffin (wholesale): 76 cents increase
Following the increase in fuel prices, motorists can expect to pay the following prices per litre:
Coastal regions
- Petrol: R15.53 – R15.58.
- Diesel: R14.22.
Inland regions
- Petrol: R15.92 – 15.97.
- Diesel: R14.70.
Furthermore, an additional tax to the fuel price – the Carbon Tax – will come into force in June. This will see an additional nine cents being added to the price of petrol. As well as an additional ten cents will be added to the price of diesel.
With the fuel prices set to increase, motorists will need to look at ways to cut costs and save fuel. But, just how does one save fuel in the upcoming months with the ever increasing fuel prices?
You can save fuel by following these simple steps:
- Fill your tank in one go
- Check your tyre pressure, as this does impact fuel consumption
- Form a lift club, where you and work colleagues take turns in driving or share the fuel costs with a designated driver.
- Avoid speeding up and then braking, as this burns additional fuel.
- Plan your route and search for shorter routes via navigational apps.
