What do you want for Christmas? We asked Newcastillians

The final countdown for Christmas has officially begun. Santa Claus is getting his sleigh ready and planning his route.

Newcastillians are prepping themselves for last-minute festive season shopping. Searching for the perfect gifts for family and friends. Retail outlets are decked with festive decorations, carols creating a jovial atmosphere.

With the prevailing Christmas spirit surging through Newcastle, the Newcastillian went out and asked residents, what they wanted for Christmas. This is what they have to say.

Lizy is not too fussed about gifts, explaining that she would be happy with almost anything.  “I don’t really want a specific thing. To me, a gift which is given out of love is the perfect gift.”

“I would love a new car, but that’s not going to happen. Cars are expensive,” laughs Tanya. “I would like a new television though.”

Hopefully, Santa Claus will ensure Tanja gets a television. If he is generous, maybe a new car as well.

When it comes to gifts, Rona is setting her sights on her house. “I just want a new sofa.”

Christmas time is all about thinking about the welfare of others, as Johnathan emphasises. “For Christmas, I just want everyone to be happy. As a gift, I am not really sure what I want.”

Family plays an integral role in the festive season. Within the family unit, mothers often make the most sacrifices for their family’s welfare. Which is why Simingaye intends to focus on her mother.

“All that I want is for my mother to be happy. I will be spending Christmas with her.”

With everyone wanting something different, Santa Claus is sure to have a busy schedule.

Let us know what you want for Christmas and maybe, your wish will come true.
