Explore the world of reading at Talana Museum’s book festival

George R. R. Martin, the author of the Game of Thrones series, once said, “A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one.”

Talana Museum will be hosting a book festival over two days, starting on November 24 and ending November 25. Two days where people will have the opportunity to embark on a magical journey, experience different worlds, new things and learn about history. Why lead only one life?

Pam McFadden, the curator of Talana Museum assures there will be a wide variety of books available. Each at affordable prices. If you are not sure what to get friends and family for Christmas, get them a book.

“Teach your children to read and appreciate books while getting them away from the TV and computer screen and off cell phones,” McFadden encourages.

Whether it is cooking, gardening, flower arranging, travel, history, biographies, travel, novels galore, educational and children’s books that you are looking for, the two-day festival will have it all.

The book festival will start at 10 am and end at 4 pm on both days, allowing bibliophiles and other book enthusiasts to make the most of the weekend at Talana Museum and the book festival.

However, in an era where digital technology reigns, what benefits are there in reading a book?

Mental stimulation

Studies show that reading is a great way of mental stimulation. Furthermore, mental stimulation can slow down the progress of Alzheimer and Dementia. Because like every other muscle, your brain needs regular exercise, which reading can do.

Broadens knowledge

Reading a book allows you to learn bits of new information every day. Even fictional works have some truth in it, allowing you to learn about different places and question the world around you.

Expand your vocabulary

By learning new words every day, you will become more articulate. This will help you in your future, relationships and careers.

Memory Improvement

Through reading, you need to remember an assortment of different characters. By remembering each character’s name, personality and the role they play in the story, you can improve your memory.

With these benefits found in the pages of a book, be sure to travel to Dundee and experience the magic to be found at the Talana Museum Book Festival.
