Wrestlers fight for top spot in championships – The Newcastillian

Scores of wrestlers flocked to Durnacol Sports Complex on Friday, June 29, and Saturday, June 30, to prove their worth at the South African Cadet Championships.

Hosted by KZN Wrestling, the two-day event saw the best of the best vying for the top spot. With wrestlers taking part from as far as Namibia, the Free State, Mpumalanga, Gauteng and all over KwaZulu-Natal, adrenaline surged through the sporting complex.

Eric de Wet and Adriaan Janse van Rensburg from Newcastle Cougars Wrestling Club were among the hundreds of wrestlers that competed.

Both wrestlers performed exceptionally well, but it was Eric that was placed during the two-day wrestling event. Eric secured a gold on Friday during the Greco-Roman division in the 65kg weight category, and a bronze in the Freestle division on Saturday.

In the Greco-Roman division, 60kg, Cadet:

Mika Lehmkuhl from Centurion Wrestling Gymnasium placed first in the 60kg division.  Keegan Basson from NNR Wrestling Club takes second place. Linus Katujanda from Nambian Wrestling Federation is in third spot.

In the Greco-Roman, 65kg, Cadet

Tiaan Moller and Francoies du Toit from Drostdy Wrestling respectively placed first and second. Eric clinched third place.
