Describing the incident, he said:

“As I was approaching the traffic light, the caution light came on, so I started slowing down and coming to a stop as the traffic light turned red. Just as I stopped, the taxi came flying down and hit my vehicle in the back.”

The force of the impact pushed the BMW forward into the intersection before it eventually came to a standstill. Fortunately, no other vehicles were involved, preventing the situation from becoming more serious at what is typically a busy morning junction.

In the aftermath of the collision, Newcastillian News attempted to obtain comment from the taxi driver.

However, he had already left the scene and proceeded to the police station with his vehicle shortly before the BMW driver also departed.

At this stage, the exact circumstances surrounding the crash remain unconfirmed. Initial observations from those at the scene, however, suggested that the taxi may have been travelling at excessive speed and may not have adjusted sufficiently for the wet road conditions following the morning rainfall.

With additional rain forecast over the weekend, motorists are once again being urged to exercise caution, reduce speed where necessary, and maintain a safe following distance, particularly on slippery and unpredictable road surfaces.
