Two motorists sustained critical injuries following a head-on collision at the corner of Vlam Crescent and Albert Wessels Drive on Wednesday morning, 15 April 2026.
The crash occurred shortly before 9 am, prompting a rapid emergency response to the scene.
According to an official police source present at the scene, the exact sequence of events leading to the collision, which involved a motor vehicle and a bakkie, remains under investigation.

In the interim, however, early indications suggest that speed may have been a contributing factor.
“The collision will be subject to investigations to establish exactly what happened,” the source confirmed, adding that both occupants of the vehicle were injured and required extensive medical attention.
Meanwhile, emergency services worked to stabilise the injured at the scene, with Magenta Emergency Medical Services and KwaZulu-Private Ambulance responding.

Speaking to Newcastillian News, Charles Steyn of Magenta Emergency Medical Services outlined the severity of the incident.
“Both the occupants of the vehicles sustained serious injuries, with the patient that the Magenta team treated being in critical condition. The paramedics treated the patients on scene before rushing with them to the hospital for further treatment,” he explained.
Although the precise cause of the collision has yet to be determined, Steyn nevertheless echoed concerns raised by authorities regarding driver behaviour. In this regard, he emphasised the risks associated with excessive speed.
“Motorists need to abide by the speed limits, as they are there for a reason. If speeding, your reaction time is not what it should be, and this could endanger both the motorist and other road users,” he stressed.
As investigations continue, authorities are expected to determine the precise factors that led to the collision, while the condition of the injured motorists remains a concern.
Both law enforcement and emergency personnel have reiterated the importance of responsible driving behaviour, noting that even momentary lapses, especially those related to speed, can have severe consequences.
