Although the exact method by which the suspect gained access to the premises remains under investigation, Hamza Randeree of Optimus Prime Security (OPS) confirmed that “after the store was broken into at 5 am, Newcastle SAPS and OPS tasked their respective informers with locating the suspect or suspects involved in the crime and where the stolen property was being kept.”

Through the informants’ guidance, authorities traced the suspect to a residence in Dicks Halt, Osizweni.

Upon entering the property, they recovered the stolen items, while the suspect reportedly attempted to hide under a bed to avoid detection.

Meanwhile, authorities emphasised that the case remains active, with further inquiries ongoing.

While the suspect is now set to appear before the Newcastle Magistrates Court, the incident highlights the tangible risks faced by local businesses and the critical role of rapid law enforcement intervention in curbing theft and ensuring stolen property is returned.
