The Newcastle Community Police Forum (CPF) has issued a plea for assistance in locating Melissa Baiwayi, a 17-year-old girl, who vanished on Sunday, 9 February 2025. According to the Newcastle CPF, she was last seen at 6:30 am that morning, departing from Arbor Park, Newcastle.

Details surrounding Melissa’s disappearance remain elusive, with no clear explanation available at this time. However, the CPF noted that she was last seen wearing a blue shirt, blue leggings, and black takkies.

Since Melissa’s mysterious disappearance, the Newcastle CPF has urged anyone with information on her whereabouts to contact:

  • Newcastle SAPS Investigating Officer DJ Mntambo on 071 092 6867.
  • Newcastle CPF’s Belinda on 071 404 3575.
  • Newcastle CPF’s Brian on 063 130 6867.

In a parallel call for assistance, the search has begun for 62-year-old Owen Mulhatton. According to his daughter, Desiree, Mr Mulhatton left his home on Monday morning, 10 February 2024, with intentions to visit Dundee’s SASSA offices.

“However, he never arrived at the SASSA offices and has not returned home. His ID and bank cards were found near Checkers in Dundee,” Desiree reported, further noting that her father has not been heard from since his disappearance.

What Mr Mulhatton was wearing at the time of his disappearance remains unknown, but he is known to use wooden hospital crutches for mobility.
