Curro St Dominics Newcastle is incredibly proud to have achieved a 100% IEB pass rate for 38 consecutive years! The Class of 2023 has truly excelled, with our Top 13 featuring among some of the best IEB candidates in the country.
Curro had 2 296 matriculants who wrote the 2023 IEB matric exam, and they have achieved an exceptional pass rate of 99.15% from the numerous Curro campuses around the country, as well as from the Curro Online school.
Curro Holdings CEO, Cobus Loubser, commended all the 2023 matriculants and their teachers on their outstanding performance.
“Congratulations to all our learners and staff on another year of academic excellence,” he said. “Your IEB results are a demonstration of your hard work, dedication and talent, and we are enormously proud of you. Your future is bright, and we believe that you will go on to achieve greater things.”
Among Curro’s two top performing candidates is St Dominics Newcastle’s Dia Singh. The 2023 Head Girl achieved above 90% average in all 10 of her subjects, earning an incredible 10 distinctions.
Dia’s school career at St Dom’s is filled with milestone achievements – from making academic history as the first learner to be awarded a prestigious and special honour’s blazer for her 10th Honours re-award, to representing South Africa on a global scientific platform at the Taiwan International Science Fair.
Dia was also in the Top 1% of candidates in the following subjects:
- Accounting, Afrikaans First Additional Language, Business Studies, English Home Language, Life Orientation, Life Sciences, and Mathematics.
- Dia also achieved 94% and 95% for Further Studies: Mathematics-Finance and Further Studies: Mathematics Standard (Calculus & Algebra) respectively.
- She has also achieved within the top 5% in 6 or more subjects and achieved a rating level of 7 in Life Orientation, which has landed her on the IEB Outstanding Achievements list.
Reflecting on her astounding results, Dia explained, “I put a lot of work into my studies, from the start of the year to the examinations. I had a set routine to ensure that when I got to the exams, I went in confident, and not stressed and unprepared.”
Adding to this, Dia highlighted that she believed that some matriculants underestimated the amount of stress and pressure that the final exams placed on learners, which was why it was essential to set a routine and work diligently on their studies every single day, not focusing just on their daily work and projects.
Now looking to the future, Dia intends to study actuarial science, which she highlighted stems from her deep seated passion and love for mathematics. “I excelled in Math, and it is something I want to pursue a career in.”
As she now begins to plan for her future, Dia encourages the Class of 2024 to begin working on their goals now. “You are capable of achieving your goals, and they won’t come true unless you work hard, and make the necessary sacrifices. If I can do it, so can you,” emphasised Dia.
Joining Dia in the Top 1% of candidates are the following learners:
- Amy Moss and Sanri van Rhyn – Afrikaans First Additional Language
- Rahul Ramgoolam – Engineering Graphics and Design
- Senate Lekholoane and Aphiwe Dube – Isizulu First Additional Language.
