Today, 10 August 2023 the demonstrators are reportedly rallying against the presence of nonlocal employees at the power station and are steadfast in their demand for a complete halt of operations at the facility.

The protest allegedly revolves around the fervent desire of the participating protestors to secure opportunities for their local communities. Protestors are allegedly demanding for a staggering 90% of the workforce at the Majuba Power Station to be composed of individuals from the immediate vicinity. This will allegedly not only provide employment to the local populace but also foster skill development within the community.

Eskom, the state owned electricity company responsible for the operation of Majuba Power Station, has yet to release an official statement regarding the unfolding situation.

Preliminary reports are circulating, suggesting a roadblock along the N11 route between Volksrust and Amersfoort.

Motorists are advised to explore alternative routes, although Road Angels Traffic Information asserts that the main road is open for travel. The demonstrators are reportedly stationed along the private access road leading to the power station.

Law enforcement agencies are monitoring the situation, closely observing any developments that may arise. In light of the fluid nature of the situation, travellers are being advised to exercise caution while navigating the route, considering the potential for changes in the prevailing circumstances.

  1. People must very clearly understand that it is not “their” job just because they live nearby. It is the company’s job and the prerogative of the company to appoint whomsoever they deem fit for the job. If the local resident does not fit the company ethos and standard required then he/she shall not enjoy the privilege of being employed.
