The Dundee Regional Court has sentenced axe murderer Xolani Sithole to life imprisonment following the brutal killing of Sibongile Elizabeth Mtshali in October 2020.
Warrant Officer Nkabini, the Investigating Officer, stated that he and the Mtshali family are overjoyed with the recent sentencing.
“The sentencing was good, as it was clearly proven that the accused planned the murder, and that it was premeditated.”
But what exactly happened on the day?
Warrant Officer Nkabini explains that on the tragic day, Sithole was seen talking to Mtshali Stratford Farm, KwaSithole, which is situated in the Dundee area. During their conversation, Sithole accused the 58-year-old woman of witchcraft and left.
“Later the day, he came back with an axe. He told her grandson to knock on the door, which the child did. When the victim opened the door, he hit her with the axe. When the victim fell inside her house, he also stepped inside.”
After entering the house, the suspect struck the woman several more times, killing Mtshali.
Following the incident, Sithole was arrested on 7 October 2020 and was denied bail after appearing in court shortly after the crime.
After a thorough investigation and testimony from witnesses, Natasha Kara, the Regional Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority‘s KZN Division, explains that Sithole was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Dundee Regional Court after the State found him guilty of murder.
He was reportedly sentenced last week, with law enforcement only now discussing the matter.
