Estimated reading time: 4 minutes

Renewing your vehicle’s licence disk can be a time-consuming, soul-crushing process. However, with Pick n Pay launching its new Vehicle Licence Disc Renewal Service across the country, long lines will be a thing of the past.

Customers will be able to renew their vehicle licence discs at an amended service fee of R250 in over 500 Pick n Pay stores across South Africa as of 25 January 2022

According to John Bradshaw, Head of Omnichannel at Pick n Pay, renewing your car licence disc is now as simple as adding it to your grocery shopping list.

The new hassle-free method of renewing vehicle licence discs was initially piloted in 19 Pick n Pay stores for a week before the retailer expanded the service to all stores as customer demand increased across South Africa.

The retailer says that this new service – in partnership with One Loyalty and Claim Expert – will make it more convenient for customers to renew their licence disc and help with congestion at licence renewal offices and the Post Office.

Adding to this, Pick n Pay will also deliver your vehicle’s licence disk to you via courier.

The retailer emphasises that motorists can enjoy certain benefits by registering online to use the service. These include:

  • Skip the queues at traffic departments and post offices, by simply paying in-store at a Pick n Pay till point
  • Avoid pesky penalty fees, to get your South African vehicle licence renewal paid on time with renewal notifications to remind you before your current disc expires
  • Pay any outstanding fines that could be blocking your disc renewal in the same payment
  • Receive your vehicle licence disc via courier within 10 business days.

How does Pick n Pay’s online vehicle licence renewal work?

Step one: Register with your cellphone number at the till in-store or click here to register on the Pick n Pay Vehicle Licence Disc Online Renewal Portal.

Step two: Set up your profile and your payment on the portal and opt to pay in a Pick n Pay Store.

Step three: Pay in-store at the till by providing your cellphone numbers as your payment reference. The retailer will then courier your vehicle licence disk in business days.

How to set up a profile?

  • Once on the Pick n Pay Vehicle Licence Disc Online Renewal Portal, provide your details and set up your password to complete your profile
  • Once your profile has been set up, you can update the dashboard of the portal by adding the details of your vehicle(s) and uploading the following documentation:
  1. – a clear image of ID document or card
  2. – a copy of your existing vehicle licence disc
  3. – proof of residence
  • You’ll also receive renewal notifications before your disc expires via your chosen communication preference that you’ve selected on the portal.
Payment of vehicle licence renewals

When you are ready to renew your vehicle licence disc, ensure you have uploaded the required documentation and captured the address you would like the disc to be delivered to on the portal.

You can then set up a payment for your vehicle licence renewal and select to make payment in a Pick n Pay store.

Your vehicle licence disc renewal payment will include the following, which is automatically added to your payment amount:

  • The amount for the licence renewal
  • A licence disc renewal admin fee of R250 (including VAT)
  • A delivery fee of R99.99 (including VAT)

If any outstanding fines are blocking your renewal, you will have the option to select these fines to include in your payment.

If you do not settle these fines, your disc cannot be renewed. The payment amount provided on the portal will be linked to your mobile number, which can be referenced when making payment in-store.

Delivery of vehicle licence discs:

Your vehicle licence disc will be couriered to your chosen address within ten business days after your payment and required documentation have been received.

The delivery fee will be included in the total payment amount for the disc renewal.

  1. It’s like paying double for your license. My bank does it much cheaper. But for that amount I would rather stand in the queue
