After many years with the Municipality, Acting Municipal Manager Vish Govender has tendered his resignation just a week after Newcastle Municipality’s new administration was installed.

On Monday, 29 November 2021, the decision was purportedly made.

In response, Newcastle Mayor David Xolani Dube stated, “The Acting Municipal Manager notified us that he intends to hand in his resignation on Monday. I will now continue to work with Mr Govender and the troika to determine the best course of action.”

If Govender decides to stick to his choice, Cllr Dube says the necessary actions will be taken. “I want to reassure the people that there will be stability and that service delivery will continue,” declares Dube.

Govender was reached out to for a response. However, he explains that he cannot comment on the matter at this point in time.
