After days of power outages, Eskom has officially reduced loadshedding to Stage 2 from midnight 11 November 2021.
On the other hand, Newcastle residents can expect Stage 1 loadshedding, according to a statement from Newcastle Municipality.
According to the government entity, Eskom has requested that Stage 1 be implemented from midday until 5 am on Friday, 12 November 2021. This means that Newcastle Municipality will reduce electricity consumption by turning off geysers only in areas where electricity is directly supplied.
According to Eskom, loadshedding will be suspended starting tomorrow morning, 12 November 2021, at 5 am.
“This has been made possible by the return to service of many of the units that had suffered breakdowns over the past two weeks, and a sufficient recovery in emergency generation reserves.”
According to Eskom, the improved demand response for various stages of loadshedding has also allowed for a faster than expected recovery.
Total breakdowns have reduced to 11 224MW, while planned maintenance is 7 030MV of capacity, as Eskom continues with reliability maintenance.
