As the nation rebuilds post the civil unrest, do Newcastillians have to fear a second phase of mass destruction now at the end of August?
This follows a poster currently circulating on social media, calling for a shutdown on 23 August 2021 if President Cyril Ramaphosa is not removed from his position. Additionally, a message is also circulating alongside the poster where threats are being made to release prisoners, close freeways, and forcibly remove guns from law enforcement.
With the countdown to the day underway, the KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Sihle Zikalala, stressed that while the government will not be detracted with false news, they are also not taking anything for granted.
Further stating, information had been received regarding the posters on social media, “We have reported this to law enforcement agencies, and we believe they are ready for that. We want to assure all people of KwaZulu-Natal, there is not such shutdown.”
However, while emphasising that Monday, 23 August 2021, will be a typical working day, police and other law enforcement agencies will be on alert to protect the various communities throughout the province.
