Three men suspected to be involved in a series of serious crimes are set to face legal action after SAPS arrested them at the Mooi River Toll Plaza.
Colonel Thembeka Mbele explains that the SAPS received intelligence on Tuesday, 3 August 2021, about a group of men suspected of being involved in robbery, kidnapping, and hijacking in Gauteng.
“It was reported that the suspects were travelling in a vehicle with cloned registration plates from Gauteng to Kwazulu-Natal. An operational team from various units in the SAPS was mobilised and they were deployed at the Mooi River Toll Plaza.”
With law enforcement strategically placed, the said vehicle was spotted proceeding on the southbound lane towards the toll plaza. Colonel Mbele says, “The suspect’s path of travel was blocked by police officers, and they were searched.”
Investigations conducted at the scene revealed that the vehicle was hijacked in Gauteng. The three suspects were then placed under arrest for possession of stolen property. “The suspects are expected to appear before the Mooi River Magistrates ‘Court today (4 August 2021).”
She concludes that investigations concerning their involvement in other crimes are continuing.
