Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

Abusing his power as an educator, a 53-year-old teacher from Madadeni, KwaZulu-Natal, allegedly forced himself onto a child during school hours, thereafter threatening the learner with her life if she spoke out.

Offering insight into the case, Police Spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala clarifies, “It is alleged that on 9 June 2021, an eleven-year-old girl was at a school in Madadeni, when she was raped by one of the teachers in the school toilets.” After enduring the traumatic ordeal, Gwala states the teacher threatened the child by saying he would kill her should she report the matter to anyone. However, the brave little girl mustered up the courage, informing her mother of what had transpired, resulting in a case of rape being opened at Madadeni SAPS.

Gwala adds, “The docket was transferred to Newcastle Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation.” Acting quickly, the FCS unit arrested the suspect on Thursday morning, 17 June 2021, with the teacher making his first court appearance on Friday morning, 18 June 2021.

The South African flag has lost its shine due to the fact that according to the latest crime statistics, from January 2021 to March 2021, a jaw-dropping 9 518 rape cases were reported to the South African Police Services (SAPS). Furthermore, Madadeni was highlighted as one of the top 30 stations where rape is a problem.

  1. The teacher must rot in jail. I wish the justice can be prevailed so that the child may find comfort in knowing that the culprit get what he deserves! My daughter was also raped last year by the man who is a former teacher/educator. The case is still in progress I’m hoping for the best outcome.
