Road Traffic Agency invites motorists to AARTO Friday in Newcastle

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

Newcastle motorists will be able to learn about their traffic infringement status, and how to resolve any issues pertaining to their transgressions at the event happening today.

This follows the Road Traffic Infringement Agency (RTIA) extending an invitation to motorists and the general public to attend the AARTO Friday community activation programme, set to take place on Friday, 30 April 2021, in Newcastle at the Newcastle Show Hall from 8 am.

The RTIA has adopted the AARTO Friday campaign to bring the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (AARTO) services closer to the road user community.

The RTIA, in partnership with the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport and Newcastle Municipality now takes this opportunity to invite members of the public to be part of the AARTO Friday, to take advantage of various AARTO service offerings that will be rendered on the day.

The two-fold event will start with a prayer on N11 accident hotspot with Interfaith communities.

The road users will be assisted to check their AARTO infringement status, and will be advised on how to resolve their infringements by selecting from the available legislated elective options.

AARTO will be implemented throughout South Africa as of 1 July 2021. According to the RTIA, the initiative will enhance law enforcement in municipalities by introducing a standard, equitable and fair traffic contravention system.

Prior to kick-starting the intended National Rollout, the agency is expected to prepare the public for such country-wide implementation through various awareness programmes, and also to have its operational structures and related systems in place to sustain such service delivery.

All motorists visiting the AARTO Mobile Offices will be required to take extra precautions during this difficult time of Covid-19, by adhering to social distancing protocols, make use of face masks and hand sanitise to curb the spread of the virus.

What are your thoughts on the initiative? Will you be attending to establish your infringement status?
