Mayhem ensued this past weekend, seeing Ithemba Security and Newcastle Police responding to two serious crimes on Sunday night, 11 April 2021.

Ithemba Security explains their armed response team received information regarding a stabbing at an Allen Street service station. The team immediately responded to the call, apprehending the two individuals, handing them over to the Newcastle police.

Newcastle spokesperson Lizzy Arumugam explains, “The victim tried to rob the suspect of his money and both started to fight. The suspect then got hold of the victim’s knife and stabbed him.” Newcastle Detectives are now investigating a case of Assault GBH.

The stabbing victim was taken to Madadeni Hospital by ambulance, while the suspect appeared in the Newcastle Magistrate Court yesterday, 13 April 2021.

Shortly after the stabbing, while Ithemba Security’s armed response stabilised the stabbing victim, a man approached the security team to report a shooting in Harding Street—which saw his friend and his friend’s girlfriend being shot.

The Ithemba Security armed response team, together with the Newcastle SAPS, rushed to the crime scene. According to the security company, after searching for the suspect alongside the police, the man was found with drugs and a firearm and was arrested. Arumugam explains the incident unfolded when the suspect went to an abandoned church on Harding Street and started an argument with the victim. She elaborates further, “He took out his firearm and shot the victim, allegedly in the chest.” The victim’s girlfriend was also shot but survived as she was shot in her right arm. The suspect’s first court appearance took place today, 13 April 2021, with Newcastle Detectives now investigating a case of murder.
