According to a statement issued by the AbaQulusi (Vryheid) Municipality, a group of individuals are scamming businesspeople under the pretence of being Municipal Manager, Bonga Ntanzi.
The statement clarifies that the scammers approach companies who have bid for one of the advertised tenders. Going to great lengths, the criminals then alert the said businesspeople, via email, of a briefing they need to attend. However, the email requests a R5 000 payment be made— to secure the tender.
The fake email address being used is: [email protected].
In response, AbaQulusi Municipality affirms, “The Municipality would like to state categorically that it will never request any money from any bidder in order to be awarded a tender. People are advised to be on the lookout for these scammers and note that due to Covid-19 Alert Level 3 revised restrictions, no briefings will be held for the tenders advertised. Also, note that the official email address for Mr Ntanzi is [email protected].”
Additionally, the Municipal Manager, Mr Ntanzi has voiced his dismay in that individuals are taking advantage of people trying to make ends meet. Moreover, he said it is disturbing that these individuals are using his name in their attempts to rob people.
With the Municipality now addressing the matter, what are your thoughts?
