Livestock plays an instrumental role in a farmer’s life. Whether it be cattle, sheep or even goats, each animal contributes to a farm’s ecosystem and the farmer’s livelihood.
While farmers put a great deal of emphasis on the importance of their livestock, there are those who prey on unsuspecting farmers.
Recently, the Vryheid Task Team received intelligence regarding cattle being hidden in the bushes at Wats area in Vryheid.
According to police spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele, the team proceeded to the said place. Upon investigating, three cattle were found tied to the trees.
Colonel Mbele claims that investigations revealed that the livestock was stolen from a farm in Utrecht on June 3.
“The information received was that the stolen cattle were about to be slaughtered and their meat was to be sold during the pension pay-out in Mondlo.”
As investigations into the matter continue, Colonel Mbele explains operations are still ongoing to curb the theft of stock in the Vryheid and surrounding areas.
Well done to the officers involved in recovering the stolen livestock.
