This morning, 6 January 2020, five people were injured after the bakkie they were travelling in overturned on the N11, between Ladysmith and Newcastle.
According to Zihaad Warahally of ER24 EMS, the incident occurred at 8:45 am while the motorist was travelling towards Ladysmith. Allegedly, the vehicle sustained mechanical failure. “This resulted in the motorist losing control of the vehicle.” Fortunately, the four men and woman in the vehicle did not sustain serious injuries. “The injuries were moderate to slight,” Warahally pointed out.
After treating the patients on the scene, medics transported them to Ladysmith Provincial Hospital for further care. Following the incident, Warahally urges motorists to practise caution and follow simple safety measures when travelling long distances. He highlights, “Motorists need to rest every two hours, ensure they stay hydrated and play calming music. It is also important to ensure your vehicle is serviced as well.”
With the recent rainfall persisting, motorists are urged to drive cautiously and not treat road rules as on option but rather a must.

Traffic LAWS are NEVER to be treated as an “option”. They are LAWS and MUST ALLWAYS BE OBEYED. It is because they are so frequently ignored that the deaths on our roads are so high.
