A family’s life has sadly, forever been changed, leaving an unfillable void as they are left dealing with the consequences of a weekend — that took a terrible turn.
On Saturday, 3 October 2020, a young man drowned at the Ntshingwayo (Chelmsford Dam). According to Jan-Henk van Vuuren of WATCO Private Ambulance Services, the young man entered the water, before going under and not returning to the surface.
In an urgent attempt to save the young mans life — various emergency services including Newcastle Protection Services, WATCO Private Ambulance, ER24 and SAPS Search and Rescue teams from both Newcastle and Pietermaritzburg responded to the scene.
Initially, a surface search was conducted, before the dive operation took place. However, after an extensive search, dive teams managed to locate and retrieve the young man’s body from the water, seeing him being declared deceased on scene by paramedics.
