The thunderous sound of roaring engines filled the air on Saturday morning, 3 September 2020 — as approximately 70 bikers made their way through Newcastle.  The journey forming part of a larger expedition, with the bikers setting their sights on concluding a trip spanning 1000km for a good cause.

In a time of uncertainty and need, each biker showed an intense determination to make a positive impact on the lives of people they have never met.

Hosting the mass ride, the biker group 911 Riders is known for its community initiatives. TJ Maré of 911 Riders explains, “We began the biker group in 2016 and have focused a lot on farm attacks and murders. However, we as a group decided to ride for charity.”

Thus, “4 Provinces 4 Charity” was born. A charity initiative which began in the early hours of Saturday morning in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, that saw bikers ride through KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and the Free State.

Maré adds each biker paid R300 to participate, with the funds going towards Abraham Kriel Children’s Home in Nylstroom and the Damascus Farm in Nelspruit, which provides assistance to marginalised and destitute individuals and families.

The charity drive proved to be a major success, with a number of Newcastle bikers either joining the initiative or meeting with the participating bikers at Majuba Pit Stop in Hutten Heights.

Thanks to numerous sponsors, the bikers were able to enjoy refreshments before continuing on their journey.

As the bikers made their way out of Newcastle, clad in their riding gear, their dedication to helping others reflects the need for South Africans to unite for the common good.
