In the grips of the global COVID-19 pandemic, children are finding themselves adjusting to a new way of schooling. Social distancing and facemasks replacing hugs and smiles.
As the number of confirmed cases increase in South Africa, the need to protect the youth and school staff from the virus is becoming more important than ever. It is through this need that the Newcastle Sakekamer has risen to the challenge.
On Friday, July 17, the Newcastle Sakekamer began a campaign, donating face buffs to 20 local schools.

According to Newcastle Sakekamer”s chairperson, Henry van der Linde, the donation is possible through the generosity of the non-profit organisation; Comburs.
“Comburs contributes to the education of less-fortunate children on an annual basis. One of the projects they are also very involved in, is the Newcastle Sakekamer’s Student Entrepreneurial Competition,” van der Linde explains.
Due to the nationwide lockdown and the pandemic, the Student Entrepreneurial Competition will not be held this year. However, the Newcastle Sakekamer and Comburs want to continue reaching out to school goers in Newcastle.
The campaign of handing out the buffs was thus born, with Newcastle Sakekamer and Comburs determined to help curb the spread of COVID-19.

The Newcastle Sakekamer, Comburs and All Wear have ensured the buffs correspond with the learners’ respective schools. Sporting their school logo and colours, the buffers ensure school learners are fully kitted up for school despite the pandemic.
The Newcastle Sakekamer began the campaign on Friday, July 17, visiting Ferrum High School, Hope Combined School, Amajuba, Huttenpark Primary School, Tugela and St Dominics Newcastle.

They continued their campaign on Tuesday, July 21, donating buffs to Panorama Combined School, Drakensberg Primary, St Oswalds Secondary School and SE Vawda. The Newcastle Sakekamer also donated buffers to Arbor Park Primary School, Busy Bee, Lennoxton Primary and Suryaville Primary.
The schools are ecstatic about the donation.
Well done to Newcastle Sakekamer, Comburs and All Wear for contributing to the safety of Newcastle’s youth.
