COVID-19 Update: Where does the Amajuba District stand with infections?

Over the past two weeks, the number of COVID-19 cases have been increasing dramatically. Not a day goes by when the cases do not shoot up exponentially.

Such is the surge in infections, that on Sunday, July 12, President Cyril Ramaphosa said the storm was upon us. “We are now recording over 12,000 new cases every day. That is the equivalent of 500 new infections every hour,” Ramaphosa said.

As of Monday evening, July 13, there are now 287 796 confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Africa. The number of recoveries stands at 138 241, while the number of COVID-19 related deaths stands at 4 172.

With the number of cases escalating, how many cases are there in our community?

According to the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health, there are 25 572 confirmed cases in KZN. There are also 7 521 recoveries and 286 COVID-19 related deaths.

Out of this figure, there are 958 confirmed cases in the Amajuba District. There has been 222 recoveries and eight deaths attributed to the coronavirus.

As the number of infections increases, Newcastillians are urged to follow the necessary regulations. By practising social distancing, wearing your face mask, sanitising and taking the required steps if you display any symptoms, you can help curb the spread of COVID-19.
