Society often puts great emphasis on how children are the future. After all, the potential to change the world can often be found in the hands of the youth.
But is society helping the country’s future leaders reach their full potential? Are we as adults doing everything in our power to help children who are facing overwhelming obstacles?
Former South African President, Nelson Mandela, once said, “There can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children.”
It is with this in mind that homes such as Morester Children’s Home exist. For children who have faced adversities in their life, Morester Children’s Home is more than a place of safety. It is a home, where less fortunate children can experience the importance of family.
During the month of March, a new Management Board Committee was elected to assist in the running of Morester Children’s Home. However, due to the nationwide lockdown, the committee was forced to wait before they could start moving forward.
Now, with the regulations easing, the new committee is determined to change the lives of those who live at Morester Children’s Home.
The committee is made up of the following individuals:
- Chairperson: Munyaradzi Muchineripi
- Vice-chairperson: Bongani Miya
- Secretary: Sicelo Sibiya
- Deputy Secretary: Bongisipho Shandu
- Treasurer: Bongane Ndlozi
The advisory panel consists of:
- Reverend Jaco Majola
- Mona Maharaj
Additional committee members are:
- Nompumelelo Nkumande
- Sthabile Nkosi
As the committee prepares to take the school to new heights, what is the committees plans for the upcoming future?
The committee’s chairperson, Munyaradzi Muchineripi, explains the new committee is planning a series of new initiatives.
“However, it is important to note that we will still be holding onto the values and principles of the previous committee. The committee consists of dedicated individuals who want to continue building on the foundations established by the former committee for the better of the children.”
As the newly elected committee prepares to make a positive change in the lives of the children at Morester Children’s Home, one of the immediate tasks planned for the future is acquiring a site for the home.
“As with any organisation and committee, there are certain challenges that we need to face. But, we would like to see Morester Children’s Home have its own site and property,” Muchineripi says.
Currently, the home is situated at Newcastle High School. By having its own premises, the home will be able to be more independent.
A number of fund-raising initiatives are also in the pipeline as the committee prepares for the future.
As the committee braces itself for the task ahead, they are determined to ensure their purpose will always see the children benefit. Allowing the youngsters to grow and reach their full potential, while in the care of the home.
Newcastle welcomes the new committee, their efforts are truly appreciated.
