The Buddha Light International Association (BLIA) Newcastle is working hard to ensure the safety of the Newcastle community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Friday, May 8, BLIA donated sanitiser and facemasks to Drakensberg Primary School. This is to ensure staff and children can remain safe when schools reopen.

“We have noticed many masks are made solely for adults, with minimum masks available for children. As children are our future, we took the necessary steps to secure them with face masks. The school staff are just as important, which is why we secured them with facemasks as well,” says BLIA Newcastle’s chairperson, Chery Ho.

The donation of sanitizers will be used to ensure children and staff can safeguard themselves from the spread of the feared virus.

Deputy Principal of Drakensberg Primary School, Chris Miller extended a heartfelt thanks to BLIA Newcastle.

“On behalf of Drakensberg Primary, we would like to thank BLIA. We truly appreciate the donation and everything they do for the community.”

The donation on Friday has rich significance for BLIA, as April 8 is Buddha’s birthday. His teachings encourage followers to do good deeds, speak good words, think good thoughts and liberate all living beings.

BLIA will be visiting more schools in the upcoming weeks, reaching out to as many people as possible.

Well done to BLIA for extending their hands to the community during this difficult time.
