As the nationwide lockdown continues, scores of people find their only source of income coming to a grinding halt.
The daunting task of feeding themselves and their families, a harsh reality that they will have to face. However, it is not a task that they will have to pursue alone.
On Sunday, April 19, a group of approximately 40 volunteers gathered at Transnat. The mission was clear. The Newcastle Muslim Community (NMC) had united to distribute food hampers to less fortunate members of the community.
The initiative was created due to the financial constraints many families are now facing. Desiring to assist those in need, the NMC began taking steps to aid them in this time of need.
With the community donating substantially to the cause, the NMC was able to go through the respective wards in Newcastle to hand out the food hamper.
Ward councillors assisted in identifying the needy families and submitted their lists to the Department of Social Development. This was to ensure everyone in need would be assisted.
Determined to ensure no one goes hungry during the lockdown, the NMC also recently donated several food hampers to residents from Dannhauser and Utrecht.
As the NMC dedicates themselves to helping the less fortunate during this difficult time, a special thanks goes out to Transnat and Devland Impuphu Wholesalers for all their assistance in making the donations possible.
Well done to the NMC for reaching out to those in need during these difficult times.
