The war on illegal drugs continues, as drug dealers continue to sell their merchandise during the nationwide lockdown.
A 30-year-old suspect was recently arrested for dealing in drugs at Springbok Farm, Dannhauser.
Newcastle police spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Ncube explains that a staggering 99 Mandrax tablets were seized during the week, at the suspect’s home.
Captain Ncube says the drugs have an estimated street value of R4000.
Earlier this month, a Gauteng man was arrested after he attempted to smuggle approximately R200 000 worth Mandrax into Newcastle.
He was arrested following a sting operation was put into place, after authorities received information about his intentions.

Mandrax is a small tablet, which varies in colour, and is highly addictive. Mandrax slows down the central Nervous System and has a sedative effect.
Symptoms of mandrax include:
- Headaches
- Stomach pain
- Weight loss
- Red puffy eyes
- Clumsiness (decreased alertness)
- Decrease in concentration
- Restlessness
- Increased sleep
- Brown/Yellowish marks on hands
- Slurred speech
- Poor co-ordination
What are the effects of mandrax?
- Relaxation – feeling happy (or laughing), calm and carefree
- Confusion
- Aggression – when the high wears off
- Nausea and vomiting
- Falling over and passing out
- Sleep
