As South Africa enters the third week of the nationwide lockdown, it seems the fight against COVID-19 is far from over.
On April 7, Shoprite Holdings was forced to close one of its stores in Cape Town. This follows one of the staff members testing positive for COVID-19.
“After one of our colleagues at Shoprite Bothasig tested positive for Covid-19, we closed this store and brought in a professional decontamination company to sanitize and deep clean the store before it will reopen after inspection by the Provincial Department of Health,” said the retailer in a statement.
The retail company adds that both the health department and the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) have been informed of the matter.
Furthermore, a mobile clinic was immediately dispatched to the store and all the employees were tested.
“Those who worked closely with this employee are now at home, in self-isolation for 14 days,” the retailer adds.
All employees returning to work will be temperature tested. The mobile clinic will remain on site until all employees have been tested.
Shoprite Holdings adds that face shields sanitised on the hour and other strict hygiene practices will remain in place.
