In the quest to ensure service delivery comes to the forefront, despite overwhelming challenges, the Newcastle Municipality assured Newcastillians that service delivery and essential services would not be hindered during the 21-day lockdown.
The municipality further committing to speed up its response time in the event of water disruptions, electricity faults and waste collection disruptions.
To date, the municipality has been able to fulfil its mandate and is responding swiftly to concerns raised by residents.
Water trucks delivering water have been working round the clock, with waste collection trucks and essential service staff working tirelessly both day and night.

The Newcastle Municipality now salutes the municipal employees in blue, as they fulfil their duties diligently during this difficult time.
Praising both the technical staff and residents who are adhering to the lockdown regulations, Mayor Cllr. Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba says it is encouraging to see municipal staff fulfil their oath in serving the community at all times.
“I’m humbled by the sheer dedication displayed by our essential service workers. We communicate daily with various heads of departments and we try to tackle challenges as speedily as possible. I strongly believe that as a municipality we can overcome our problems if we nurture this unity which we have forged over the years. As a municipality we will continue to serve at the behest of our community,” remarks Dr Mahlaba.
