With the national lockdown in full effect, the South African Police Service (SAPS) is working diligently to help curb the spread of COVID-19.
Holding a recent roadblock at the Ingogo turnoff, just 30 km outside of Newcastle, local police officers met with the Minister of Police, Bheki Cele.
He was joined by the National Commissioner General Sithole and KZN Provincial Commissioner, General Jula, as well as the Amajuba District Mayor Dr Musa Ngubane.
With the national lockdown minimising movement, the officials were briefed about the success of the roadblock, which is aimed at seeing the control measures of the lockdown being implemented, as well as ensuring the Disaster Management Act is being adhered to.

Newcastle SAPS spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Ncube explains the entourage was also expected to visit local townships to ensure the lockdown measures are being complied with.
As law-enforcement helps enforce the measures of the nationwide lockdown, residents are encouraged to ensure to play their part and avoid leaving their homes, unless it is necessary.
