Local SAPS recover stolen cars and arrest alleged drug dealers

The local South African Police Service (SAPS) is taking crime head-on, as it brings the criminal element to book.

On March 7, members of the Amajuba Cluster Task Team arrested four suspects for vehicle theft. Newcastle SAPS spokesperson Captain Jabulani Ncube says the suspects were arrested at Leslie Farm, just outside of Newcastle.

The team recovered a Toyota Tazz, which was stolen in the CBD at approximately 11.10am on the same day.

Captain Ncube adds that the Vehicle Identification Service (VIS) unit joined forces with the Amajuba Cluster Task Team and recovered a Colt Bakkie, which had been stolen from Volksrust.

On Sunday, March 8, Amajuba Cluster Operation Fiela members recovered a Datsun Go. Captain Ncube says the owner of the vehicle was hijacked on Saturday night, while in Section 6 of Madadeni. The vehicle was found abandoned in the Drycut Farm area.

Captain Ncube says the team has now recovered 10 stolen cars during the current financial year.

As the Amajuba Cluster addresses vehicle crime, the Osizweni Policing Area is conducting a series of intelligence-driven operations to eradicate drugs in the area.

Recently, the Osizweni Policing Area joined forces with the Crime Prevention Unit. Following up on information pertaining to drugs, the team of police officers raided a home at Msomi Stand, Blaauwbosch.

At the house, the officers recovered 30 full mandrax tablets, with an estimated street value of R2 500. The suspect is now in police custody, with the court proceedings taking place at Madadeni Magistrate Court.

In a separate intelligence-driven operation, the two units followed up on more information regarding drugs.

Following up on the information, the officers conducted a search at a house in Section A, Osizweni. At the house, two suspects were taken into custody with the police recovering 35 full mandrax tablets and one quarter mandrax tablet.

Captain Jabulani Ncube, Newcastle SAPS spokesperson, says the drugs have an estimated street value or R2 800. The court proceedings will take place at Madadeni Magistrate’s Court.

Well done to the police officers involved in the arrest of the individuals involved in vehicle crime and drugs.
