Newcastle Cougars Wrestling Club takes on Eastern Gauteng Championships

The sound of cheering fades into the background. A wrestler approaches the mat, his focus set on his opponent. After hours of practice, the time has arrived for him to put his skills to the test.

In the quest for domination, nine wrestlers from Newcastle Wrestling Club participated in the Eastern Gauteng Championships on Saturday, February 22, at Carnival City.

With 635 entrants from around South Africa, the time had finally come for the Cougars to prove their worth. Taking on some of the best wrestlers in the country, the Cougars bared their teeth, rising to the daunting challenge.

Through sheer domination and strength, alongside excellent technique, Newcastle Cougars Wrestling Club secured five medals at the championships. With three silver medals and two gold medals, the Cougars proved to be a formidable force.

The medal winners are Carlos Giammello, Ricardo Giamello, Hanro Mienie, Sunè Horn and Tjaart Mienie.

Well done to the wrestlers from Newcastle Cougars Wrestling Club, with their efforts bringing a sense of pride to Newcastle.
