A mother’s love is unrivalled, often sacrificing her own needs for the benefit of her children. Yet, there are mothers who show little compassion to their offspring.
A 20-year-old woman from the Eastern Cape is in police custody, charged with murder for allegedly killing her newborn baby.
Captain Jackson Manatha explains the woman, who is from Bizana and attends school in Dutywa, was staying with her sister.
During the early hours of Tuesday morning, January 14, the sister heard her pregnant sister leave their room. When she did not return, the sister began searching for her. It was then that she found her sister lying next to the dead body of her child.
The twin sister saw blood on the ground and discovered her sister had given birth. Manatha explains the baby had scratches and injuries on his upper body. Shocked at the sight, the suspect’s twin sister immediately called for help.
The baby was rushed to Dutywa Health Centre, where he was confirmed dead.
Now facing a murder charge, the woman is expected to appear in court today, January 16.
Currently, it isn’t clear what the woman used to kill the baby. However, Manatha says investigations are underway.
