The art of Bonsai is one which requires patience, bringing about a sense of harmony and tranquillity to your mind and emotions.
With the end of the year within sight, the need to find a sense of calm, tranquillity and harmony has never been more important.
On Saturday, November 30, Newcastle Corner organised a Bonsai Workshop at RocoMamas. A workshop which introduced Newcastillians to the art and joy of Bonsai.
Hosting the workshop was local Bonsai Tree enthusiast, Andrey Els. “The workshop was a beginner’s guide to the art of Bonsai, where people were given a Juniperus Procumbens ‘Nana’ as a specimen and the necessary equipment to care for it,” Andrey explains. This included a pot and the necessary growing material, branch cutter, scissors and wire.
RocoMamas also contributed a meal voucher to the event, ensuring guests had a hearty lunch; following the highly entertaining and educational workshop, which covered an array of topics involving Bonsai trees.
This included a discussion on a cascade style, pruning Bonsai trees, Bonsai soil mixtures, how to design Bonsai trees and how to take care of the plant.
“The Bonsai Workshop is a unique and interesting event for the community to enjoy, and we are hoping to hold more unique events such as this in the future,” smiles Marianka Knox of Newcastle Corner.
