Education plays a vital role in building a solid foundation for an individual’s future. Which is where Durnacol Skills Hub (DSIH) steps in, assisting people in creating a brighter future for themselves.
DSIH is a fully-fledged tertiary institution, a mere stone’s throw away from Newcastle, Dundee, Dannhauser and Ladysmith. Initially, DSIH provided apprenticeship training to Fitters, Electricians and Millwrights when it was first established in 2009.
However, DISH has upped its game and achieved full accreditation for other trades such as Diesel Mechanic, Motor Mechanics, Welders and Fitter and Turners.

As DSIH offers quality education to future apprentices, DSIH opened its doors to nearby communities from Friday, October 18, to Saturday, October 19. During the two days, staff and current DSIH learners introduced potential learners to the world that is quality education.
Mari Wiese, a member of the tertiary institute’s management, explains Durnacol Skills Hub introduces learners to real-life experiences.
“We expose our learners to various courses and during the Open Day, the potential learners can speak to the different facilitators and students, who will be able to advise and guide the potential learner into a course which will be suitable their interests and needs.”
During the two-day event, attendees were able to learn about the various apprenticeships the educational institute has to offer while planning for their future.
