Newcastle will be sporting its own Butcher Training & Agricultural Training School as of October 1, offering Newcastillians the chance to pursue a career in the meat and agricultural industries.
No longer will people with a passion for meat and agricultural need to travel far and wide to study. Not with the top of the range development set to take place, right here at home.
RSA Private College situated in Eduzone, is opening the Butcher Training and Agricultural Training School. An establishment which is sure to take a slice out of unemployment.

The facility offers both full and part-time courses. These courses are of a high standard, as the Butcher Training School offers programmes for National Certificates in fresh meat processing (120 credits, NQL Level 3), as well as meat processing (120 credits, NQL Level 3).
Adding to the value of the school, the establishment also offers a Basic Blockman Course, allowing students the chance to pursue a steady career in the meat industry.
The agricultural training school offers National Certificates in Farming, Animal Production, Mixed Farming, Plant Production, Poultry Production & Processing, Abattoir Slaughtering and Processes, Agri trade processes and Horticulture.
Don Neerahoo of RSA Private College, explains the courses are Accredited with the Food and Beverage SETA and the AgriSETA.

The function of FoodBev SETA is to promote, enable and spur skills development in the food and beverage manufacturing sector. It is also one of 21 sector education and training authorities (SETAs), to put the National Skills Development Strategy (NSDS) into practice.
AgriSETA creates and promotes opportunities for social, economic and employment growth for agri-enterprises. Especially through relevant, quality and accessible education, training and development.
RSA Private College wants to see their students succeed. Its vision is to provide life-long education and training. Because of this, its mission is to provide market-related education and training programmes which will ensure the development of its students.
Practical experience will play an important role in the Butcher and Agriculture Training School. This will be to assist students in developing the necessary experience for the workplace.

Practical work will take place under the guidance of Goolam Yasseen of Yasseen’s Meat Products. “My grandfather started the business in 1928. In 1958, my father took over and then I took over in 1988.”
Learning much from his family, Mr Yasseen furthered his education by studying at the Freddie Hirsch School in Cape Town. Once his studies were complete, Mr Yasseen travelled to Germany, Holland and America to expand his knowledge.
Mr Yasseen also ran 26 biltong kiosks for over 30 years in Game stores around the country.
Now at 66-years of age, he is a fountain of knowledge. “I am looking forward to the school. I want to pass on my knowledge and experience onto the younger generation, so they can better their lives.”
Meeting national qualification standards, the Butcher training school is offering potential students an opportunity of a lifetime.
“As part of community engagement, we will be giving away a free practical training course/certificate from the AgriSETA on animal and plant production. Terms and conditions apply. But, this course is usually valued at R15 000,” explains Don Neerahoo of RSA Private College.
